(5) Every letter, numeral or arrow incorporated in a temporary sign shall be—

(a) black or dark blue in colour on a background of white, silver, cream or yellow; or

(b) white or silver in colour on a blue background.

(6) There may be incorporated in or attached to a temporary sign the arms, badge or other device of a highway authority, police authority or an approved Organisation or words or letters indicating the highway authority or that the sign is a police sign.

Flashing beacons

24. Beacons showing an intermittent red light for conveying the warning that drivers of vehicles should take special care may be used in combination with or in conjunction with any of the signs specified in the last preceding Regulation of these Regulations, subject to the following conditions:

(i)the dimensions of the lenses shall not be less than 5 inches nor more than 8 inches measured in a straight line in any direction;

(ii)the height of the centre of the lenses from the carriageway shall be not less than 4 feet nor more than 8 feet;

(iii)the rate of flashing shall be not less than 50 nor more than 75 per minute; and

(iv)the structure on which the lamps are supported shall be painted black and white in alternate horizontal bands.

25.(1) Subject to the provisions of the succeeding paragraph of this Regulation, beacons showing an intermittent red light for conveying the warning that drivers of vehicles should take care may be used at important cross roads if the beacons comply with the following conditions:—

(a) the diameter of the lenses shall be not less than 64 inches nor more than 8 inches;

(b) the height of the centre of the lenses from the carriageway shall be not less than 8 feet nor more than 10 feet;

(c) the rate of flashing shall be not less than 60 nor more than 70 per minute; and

(d) the structure on which the lamps are placed shall be painted black and white in alternate horizontal bands and the base thereof shall be illuminated with a white floodlight.

(2) On and after the expiration of one year from the coming into operation of these Regulations this Regulation shall cease to have effect.

Flags

26. Flags of an area of not less than 2 square feet and coloured red for conveying information that drivers of vehicles should cause their vehicles to halt or coloured green for conveying information that drivers of vehicles may cause their vehicles to proceed may be used to control vehicular traffic in order to assist its safe movement at any level crossing or at any opening bridge or in connection with any works being executed on a road and a flag of the aforesaid area coloured red for conveying the warning that it would be dangerous for drivers to cause their vehicles to proceed may be used in an emergency:
