Part II—General Directions

Part III—General Citation and Commencement

The Secretary of State for Transport, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales make these Regulations and give these Directions in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 25, 54 and 55 or the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1967[1] and by the revision in column 5 of Part I of Schedule 4 to the Road Traffic Act, 1972[2] which relates to section 22 of the Act, and now vested in them.[3], and of all enabling powers, and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 107(2) of the said Act of 1967 and section 199(2) of the said Act of 1972 (the said powers being exercised by the said Secretaries of State either jointly or separately as respects England, Scotland and Wales in the manner set out in Schedule 8 to these Regulations.

Part I—Traffic Signs Regulations

Section 1

Preliminary

Citation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the The Signs Regulations 1981.

Revocation

2. The Traffic Signs Regulations 1975[4] are hereby revoked, and the said Regulations of 1975 are hereinafter in these Regulations to as the "Regulations of 1975".

Savings
3.—(1) Any traffic sign which immediately before the coming into operation of these Regulations is in being, if it is a sign shown in any of the diagrams Nos. 564.2 to 564.4 in Schedule 1 to the Regulations of 1975 or is a Sign in which there is provision in Regulation 27(1)(a)(iv) of those Regulations and if it then complies with the provision relating thereto by virtue of those
