Jack did confeſs the things aright,
they could not be deny’d,
But he deſired that he might
by his own wife be try’d.
If want of wit or too much fear,
did then ſpeechleſs make him,
It is well known, nor need we care,
but as he is, ſo take him.
His wife excus‘d the matter, ſo
ſhe free’d him, as ’tis told.
This having penn’d—you here may ſee
“a loving wife‘s worth gold.“
