To designate March 21, 1986, as "National Energy Education Day".
Whereas a reUable and economical supply of energy is essential to the future well-being of the United States; Whereas the development and implementation of an enlightened energy policy requires that the public be adequately informed of the issues and alternatives; Whereas ongoing quality energy education programs in America's schools and communities will continue to play an important role in educating the public regarding energy issues; Whereas the annual celebration of "National Energy Education Day" (NEED) brings together students, teachers, school officials, and community leaders to focus attention on the need for energy education in our Nation's schools and communities; and Whereas such a celebration should be conducted in a manner which encourages a deeper understanding of the role education will play in shaping America's energy future: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled. That, in order to promote and enhance energy education programs at all grade levels of public and private schools throughout the United States, March 21, 1986, is designated "National Energy Education Day". The President is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States, and all educational institutions, to observe such a day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, and encourage appropriate Federal agencies to participate in the observance of such a day and to cooperate with persons and institutions conducting such ceremonies and activities.
