for a prevention awareness program stressing what individuals can do to lower personal cancer risk by modifying lifestyle factors such as diet, and Whereas the National Cancer Act has fostered the transfer of information from basic research to the patient's bedside, while strengthening a network that links basic science laboratories, cancer centers, cooperative groups of clinical researchers, community oncologists, practicing physicians, and nurse oncologists, and facilitate the application of the results of research: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the month of May, 1987 is designated as "National Cancer Institute Month", and the President of the United States is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States and all appropriate Government agencies to observe the month with appropriate programs and activities.
