Be it enacted by the Senate and Phase of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Charles Stearns Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to pay to Charles gg g§OP*"d Stearns, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, the ’ ` sum of five thousand dollars, to indemnify him for losses sustained and expenses incurred in defending his title to certain lands claimed by the United States; and also in defending two criminal prosecutions brought against him by direction of the Secretary of War.
