(b) TRANSITION PROVISION.—(1) An individual who before the date of the enactment of this Act was involuntarily separated or retired from employment as an Army Reserve or Air Force Reserve technician under section 10218 of title 10, United States Code, and who would not have been so separated if the provisions of subsection (c) of that section, as amended by subsection (a), had been in effect at the time of such separation may, with the approval of the Secretary concerned, be reinstated to the technician status held by that individual immediately before that separation. The effective date of any such reinstatement is the date the employee resumes technician status. (2) The authority under paragraph (1) applies only to reinstatement for which an application is received by the Secretary concerned before the end of the one-year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act. Subtitle C—Education and Training SEC. 531. ELIGIBILITY OF CHILDREN OF RESERVES FOR PRESI- DENTIAL APPOINTMENT TO SERVICE ACADEMIES. (a) UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY.— Section 4342(b)(1) of title 10, United States Code, is amended— (1) in subparagraph (B), by striking ", other than those granted retired pay under section 12731 of this title (or under section 1331 of this title as in effect before the effective date of the Reserve Officer Personnel Management Act)"; and (2) by inserting after subparagraph (B) the following: "(C) are serving as members of reserve components and are credited with at least eight years of service computed under section 12733 of this title; or "(D) would be, or who died while they would have been, entitled to retired pay under chapter 1223 of this title except for not having attained 60 years of age;". (b) UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY.— Section 6954(b)( 1) of such title is amended— (1) in subparagraph (B), by striking ", other than those granted retired pay under section 12731 of this title (or under section 1331 of this title as in effect before the effective date of the Reserve Officer Personnel Management Act)"; and (2) by inserting after subparagraph (B) the following:
