Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Postmaster-General bg, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to adjust the accounts of A¤<>°¤¤*¤ °€ Peay and Ayliiie, late contractors on mail route, number seven thousand £,°§£ :$l1,,:,£n.° five hundred and three, in the State of Arkansas ; and if it appears, from J evidence produced by said Peay and Ayliife, or on the files of the department, that the said contractors, in consequence of the weight of the mails, were compelled between the first July, eighteen hundred and fifty-four, and fifteenth day of June, eighteen hundred and fifty-seven, to perform extra. service, not contemplated in, or covered by, their contract, then the accounts of said contractors for such extra service shall be audited and paid, at a fair rate of compensation, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
