TRAV E L A ND TRANS PO RTAT I ON F ORS U RVIVORS OF DECEASED M EM B ERSOFT H E UNIFORMED SERVICES TO ATTEND MEMORIAL CEREMONIES. (a) A L L OWANCES A UTH O RIZ E D . — Subsection (a) of section 4 11f of title 3 7 ,U nited States C ode, is amended— (1) by redesignating paragraph ( 2 ) as paragraph (3)

and (2) by inserting after paragraph (1) the follo w ing new para- graph (2)

‘(2) T he Secretary concerned may pro v ide round trip travel and transportation allowances to eligible relatives of a member of the uniformed services who dies while on active duty in order that the eligible relatives may attend a memorial service for the deceased member that occurs at a location other than the location of the burial ceremony for which travel and transportation allow- ances are provided under paragraph (1). Travel and transportation allowances may be provided under this paragraph for travel of eligible relatives to only one memorial service for the deceased member concerned. ’ ’. (b) CON F OR M IN G AMENDMENTS.—Subsection (c) of such section is amended— (1) by striking ‘‘subsection (a)(1)’’ the first place it appears and inserting ‘‘paragraphs (1) and (2) of subsection (a)’’; and (2) by striking ‘‘subsection (a)(1)’’ the second place it appears and inserting ‘‘paragraph (1) or (2) of subsection (a)’’. SEC. 63 2 . TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION ALLO W ANCES FOR DES - I G NATED INDIVIDUALS OF WOUNDED , ILL, OR IN J URED MEMBERS OF THE UNIFORMED SERVICES FOR DURATION OF INPATIENT TREATMENT. (a) AUTHORIT Y TO P RO V IDE TRAVEL TO D ESIGNATED I NDIVID- UALS.—Subsection (a) of section 411h of title 37, United States Code, is amended— (1) in paragraph (1)— (A) by striking ‘‘family members of a member described in paragraph (2)’’ and inserting ‘‘individuals who, with respect to a member described in paragraph (2), are des- ignated individuals for that member’’; ( B ) by striking ‘‘that the presence of the family member’’ and inserting ‘‘, with respect to any such indi- vidual, that the presence of such individual’’; and (C) by striking ‘‘of family members’’ and inserting ‘‘of designated individuals’’; and (2) by adding at the end the following new paragraph: ‘‘(4) In the case of a designated individual who is also a member of the uniformed services, that member may be provided travel and transportation under this section in the same manner as a designated individual who is not a member.’’.
