N0V¤¤1b¤1' 7, IW- A PROCLAMATION. · The season is nigh when it is the yearly wont of this People to observe Preamble. a day appointed for that purpose by the President, as an especial occasion for thanksgiving unto God. Now thereiore in recognition of this hallowed custom, I, Chester A. Nov. 27, 1884, Arthur, President of the United States, do hereby designate as such g°*”8¥‘!,E;d :*2 ' day of general thanksgiving, Thursday the twentyseventh day of this ,,3 ° °‘° mv' present N ovembcr. ` And I do recommend that throughout the land, the People ceasing from their accustomed occupations, do then keep holiday at their several homes and their several places of worship, and with heart and voice pay reverent acknowledgement to the Giver of all Good for the countless blessings wherewith He hath visited this nation.
