That the commissioners appointed by the President under the authority of this Act shall receive as compensation for their services and expenses the sum of five thousand ollars each per annum the same to be paid by the Secretary of the Treasury and deducted from any money appropriated for said exposition. _ ,;,1};% P°’S°¤¤“>' “· Sec. 18. That no member of said commission or of said Government board, whether an officer or otherwise, shall be personally liable for any debt or obligation which may be created or incurred by the said commission or by the said United States Government board herein authorized. APP¤>P¤i¤¤<>¤· Sec. 19. That whereas the Secretary of the Treasury has certified, under date of February sixth, nineteen hundred and one, that the Louisiana Purchase Ex osition Company has presented to him proof to his satisfaction that itllias raised ten million dollars for and on account of inaugurating and carrying forward an exposition at the city of Saint Louis, Missouri, in the year nineteen hun red and three, to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the purchase of the Louisiana Territory; therefore there is hereby appro(priated, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriate , the sum of five million dollars, to aid in carrying forward) such exposition, to pay the salaries of the members and secretary of the national Commission herein authorized, and such other necessary expenses as may be incurred by said commission in the discharge of its duties in connection with said exposition, and to discharge all other obligations incurred by the Government on account of said exposition, except for the erection of its own buildings and the making and care of .its own exhibits at said exposition. That the money hereby appropriated shall be disbursed under the direction of the said Louisiana urchase Exposition Company under rules and regulations to be prescribed by the Secretary of P*<m<>·*· the Treasury and upon vouchers to be approved by him: Profvided, -·wh¢¤ ¤-v¤i1¤b1<>· That, except for the payment of the salaries and expenses of the national commission, no part of said appropriation shall become available until the sum of ten million dollars shall have been expended by said company on account of said expositionto the satisfaction of —G<>v¤r¤¤¤¤¤¤ ¤x- the Secretary of the Treasury: Provided fw·ther, That all sums ex- . penditures. · · · · · pended by the Government on account of said exposition, including the salaries and expensestof said national commission, except for the erection of its own buildings and the making and care of its own exhibits at said exposition, shall be limited to and paid out of the appropriation of five million dollars herein provided for such purpose.
