All other costs, expenses, and damages resulting from, incidental to, or connected with the revisions, changes, and improvements in alignment and grades of said railroad, or the . relocations thereof by this Act required and authorized, and from changes in the grades of the streets or the railroad, and the lawful operation of the said railroad upon the location and structures contemplated and required b_y this Act, and whether to roperty owners affected thereby or otherwise, as well as the cost and) expense of all street apiproaches to said company’s tracks and right of way, whethe1· overhea by means of brid es or under grade, shall be borne paid, and defrayed in manner fol¥owing, to wit: Fifty per centum thereof _ by the United States and the remaining fifty er centum thereof by the District of Columbia, which last-mentionedpfifty per centum shall be levied and assessed upon the taxable pro erty and priyileges in said District other than the property of the llhited States and of the District of Columbia. All work within the limits of the said railroad company’s right of c,gfPP'°‘*“’ of “’°'k- way, including the bridges within said limits, shall be done by said railroad company to the satisfaction and approval of the Commissioners of the District of Columbia, who are authorized to exercise such supervision over the same as may be necessary to secure the proper construction and maintenance of the said work. That to enable the Baltimoriiland Potomac Railroad Com- P'°§°"’Y u‘°mb"°H °·° pany to effectuate the purposes contemplated and authorized by this ggrllfemthiaiiom or Act, the said company be, and they are hereby, authorized and empow- ` ered to acquire, either by purchase or condemnation, as hereinafter provided, and, when so acquired, to use the same for tracks and other corporate purposes, and make all such improvements thereon and thereto as may be deemed necessary, the following prqperties, to wit: All of squares four hundred and sixty-two, four hun red and sixty- three, four hundred and sixty-three south, and four hundred and ninety- three; and also as much land as may be required for tracks and other corrilorate purposes which lies to the south of the present mam tracks of the com any between South Capitol and First streets southeast and north of the northerly line of M street: Provided, however, That if méuimdmtb land shall be acquired south of the present railroad yards and between ofP1'¤¤¤¤tyards,e¤c.
