For the fiscal yeafending June thlftléth, mpctcéll hundred ,,I§d“.§’§’€fl °f S`"'°l°° and twelve, whenever the ice machines, steam laundr1es,_ and electric plants shall not come in competition with private enterprise for sale to the public, and in the opinion of the Secretary of War rt ecomes necessary to the economical use and administration of such 1ce machines, steam laundries, and electric plants as have been or may hereafter be established in pursuance o law, surplus ice may be disposed of, laundry work may be done for other branches of the Government, and surplus electric light and power may be sold on such terms and in accordance with suci r latrons as may be prescribed bi the Secre- U°°°"”°°°°°“’°°°‘ tary of War: Promkled, Ihiit the funds received from suc sales and in payment for such laundry work shall be used to defray the cost of operation of said ice, laundry, and electric plants; and the sales and expenditures herein provide for shall be accounted for m accordance with the methods prescribed by law, and any sums remaining; after such cost of maintenance and operation have been defrayed, s all be deposited in the Treasury to the credit of the appro%iation from which Amount the cost of o eration of such plant is (paid, eight mi `on three hundred and thirty-tli)ree thousand three hun red and eighty-seven dollars and thirty-three cents. _ ngctvmwt 0* vw For the purchase of the necessarly instruments,ofIice furniture, stationery, aind other authorized artrc as required for the equipment and °use of the oii:icer·s’ schools at the several military posts, nine thousand three hundred and fifty dollars. 1¤·¤<¤¤¤*=·¤ ¤r·¤¤¤¤¤- INCIDENTAL nxrnnsnsz Postage; cost of telegrams on official business received-and sent by officers of the Army; extra pay to soldiers employed on extra duty, under the direction of the Quartermaster’s Department, in the erection of barracks, quarters, and storehouses, in the construction of roads and other constant labor for periods of not less than ten days, and as clerks for post quartermasters at military posts, and for prison overseers at posts designated by the War Department for the confinement of general prisoners, and for the United States militaréy prison guard; for expenses of expresses to and from frontier posts an armies in the field, of escorts to paymasters and other disbursing officers, and to trains where military escorts can not be furnished; authorized office furniture, hire of laborers in the artermaster’s Department, including the care of officers’ mounts vlrlihn the same are furnished by the Government and the hire of interpreters, spies, or guides for the Army; compensation of clerks and other employees to the officers of the Quartermaster’s Department, and clerks, foremen, watchmen, and organist for the United States military prison, and incidental expenses of recruiting; for the apprehension, securing, and delivering of deserters, including escaped military · prisoners, and the expenses incident to their pursuit, and no greater sum than fifty dollars for each deserter or escaped military prisoner shall, in the iscretion of the Secretary of War, be paid to any civil officer or citizen for such ser·vices and expenses; for a donation of five dollars to each dishonorably discharged prisoner upon his release from confinement, under court-martial sentence, involving dishonorable disnemexpeuuuures. charge; for the following expenditures required for the several regiments of Cavalry, the batteries of Light Artillery, and such companies of Infantry and scouts as may be mounted, the authorized number of officers’ horses, and for the trains, to wit: Hire of veterina surgeons purchase of medicines for horses and mules, picket ropes, lifacksmitlfd tools and materials, horseshoes and blacksmith’s tools for the Cavalry service, and for the shoeing of horses and mules, and such additional expenditures as are necessary and authorized by law in the movements and operations of the Army, and at military posts, and not expressly Amount. $(gn1egl&tpS any other department, two million one hundred thou-
