If his visit is made, it should be combined as muc as possible with the customhouse inspection to the end that travelers may be detained as short a time as possible. Only persons evidently sick should be subjected to a searching medical examination. _ im Article XL. As soon as travelers, coming from an infected locality, shall have arrived at their destination it would be of the greatest utility to submit them to Vol. 35. p. mba. a surveillance which should not exceed ten or ve days, counting from the date of departure, the time depending, upon whether it is a question of plague or cholera. If one of these carri- ages be infected or shall have been occup by. a person suffering from plague, -chlorea or yellow fever, it shall be detached from the train for disinfection at the earliest possible moment. v Article XLIII. Measures concerning the passing of frontiers by the personnel R¤m'°:,¤ md WW of railroads and of the Post Oihce are a matter or agreement of the sanitary °°§°§f§5,‘,_mm_ lglithorities concerned. These measures should be so arranged as not to hinder e service. _ Article XLIV.
