CH. 137. . 1928. includes $1,500,000, the remainder of the amount of the contractual authorization contained in the Act making appropriations for the De partme nt of the In terio r for the fi scal year 19 28, approved January 12, 1927 : Provided, That not to exceed $9,000 of the amount herein appropriated may be expended for personal services in the District of Columbia during the fiscal year 1929 : Provided further, That balances of prior appropriations for construction of roads and trails in national parks shall remain available until expended Provided further, That in addition to the amount herein appropriated the Secretary of the Interior may also approve projects, incur obliga- tions, and enter into contracts for additional work not exceeding a total o f $4,000,000, and his actio n in so doing shall be deem ed a contractual obligation of the Federal Government for the payment of the cost thereof and appropriations hereafter made for the con- struction of roads in national parks and monuments shall be consid- ered available for the purpose of discharging the obligations so created . BUREA U OF EDUCATIO N SAL ARIE S GEN ERAL EX PENS ES For necessary traveling expenses of the commissioner and employees acting under his direction, including attendance at meet- ings of educational associations, societies, and other organizations ; for compensation not to exceed $1,200 of employees in field service ; for purchase, distribution, and exchange of educational documents, motion-picture films, and lantern slides ; collection, exchange, and cataloguing of educational apparatus and appliances, articles of school furniture and models of school buildings illustrative of for- eign and dom estic systems and methods of education, and repairing the same ; and other expenses not herein provided for, $15,000.
