CARE OF THE DEAD Expenses of inter- ment of officers, etc ., For the care of the dead ; for funeral expenses and interment or dying in the service . transportation to their homes or to designated cemeteries of the rem ains of offic ers (includin g officers who die within t he United States) and enlisted men of the Navy and Marine Corps, of members Civilian employees of the Nurse Corps, reservists on active or training duty, and dying abroad . accepted applicants for enlistment, civilian employees of the Navy Department and Naval Establishment who die outside of the conti- nental limits of the United States, and former enlisted men who are discharged while in naval hospitals and are inmates of said hospitals on the date of their death ; for funeral expenses and interment of the r emains of pen sioners and de stitute patie nts who die i n naval hospitals ; for purchase and care of cemetery lots ; for removal of remains from abandoned cemeteries to naval or national cemeteries, or to their homes, including remains interred in isolated graves at home and abroad, and remains temporarily interred, $60,000 : Proviso . officers, etc ., Provided, That the above provision shall apply in the case of officers onactive duty, in- and e nlisted men o f the Navy and Marine Corps on the retir ed list who die while on active duty .
