THE DEAF, DUMB, AND BLIND For expenses attending the instruction of deaf and dumb persons admitted to the Columbia Institution for the Deaf from the District of Columbia, under section 4864 of the Revised Statutes, and as pro- vided for in the Act approved March 1, 1901, and under a contract to be entered into with the said institution by the commissioners, $27,500. F or ma inten ance and tuiti on of col ored deaf- mute s of teach able age belonging to the District of Columbia, in Maryland, or some other State, under a contract to be entered into by the commissioners, $6,500 : Pro vide d, That all expenditures under this appropriation shal l be made under the supe rvisi on o f the Boar d of Educ ation . For instruction of blind children of the District of Columbia, in Maryland, or some other State, under a contract to be entered into by the commissioners, $10,500 : Provided, Tha t all exp endit ures unde r this appropriation shall be made under the supervision of the Board of Education. AMERICANIZATION WORK Fo r Amer icaniz ation work a nd ins tructi on of f oreign ers of all a ges in both day and night classes, and teachers and janitors of American- ization schools may also be teachers and janitors of the day schools, $10,000 . For contingent and other necessary expenses, including books, equipment, and supplies, $1,000 . COMMUNITY CENTER DEPARTMENT For personal services of the director, general secretaries, and com- munity secretaries in accordance with the Act approved June 4, 1924 ; part-time employees, including janitors on account of meetings of pare nt-te acher asso ciat ions and o ther acti vitie s, a nd co nting ent expenses, equipment, supplies, and lighting fixtures, $41,000. CARE OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS Salaries : For personal services in accordance with the Classifi- cation Act of 1923, $619,260. For car e of s maller build ings a nd ren ted roo ms, in cludin g cook ing and manual-training schools, wherever located, at a rate not to exceed $96 per annum for the care of each schoolroom, other than those occupied by atypical or ungraded classes, for which service an amount not to exceed $120 per annum may be allowed, $7,000 . For the maintenance of schools for tubercular pupils, $7,000 . For t ransp ortat ion for p upils att endin g sch ools for tuber cular pupils, $5,000 : Provided, That expenditures for street-car and bus fares from this fund sha ll not be subject to the ge neral lim itations on the use of street-car and bus fares covered by this Act . For purchase and repair of furniture, tools, machinery, material, and books, and apparatus to be used in connection with instruction in manual training, and incidental expenses connected therewith, $85,000 .
