CAPITOL POLICE For the purpose of carrying into effect the provisions of the Act entitled "An Act to encourage national industrial recovery, to foster fair competition, and to provide for the construction of certain useful public works, and for other purposes", approved June 16, 1933, and also for the purpose of carrying into effect the provisions of the Act entitled "An Act for the relief of unem- ployment through the performance of useful public work, and for other purposes', approved March 31, 1933, and for each and every object thereof, to be expended in the discretion and under the direction of the President, to be immediately available, and except as hereinafter provided to remain available until June 30, 1935, $3,300,- 000,000 ; of which not to exceed $50,000,000 shall be available to the board of di rector s of t he Ten nessee Valley Autho rity, and to remai n available until expended, for the purpose of carrying out the pro- visions of the Act of Congress entitled "The Tennessee Valley Authority Act of 1933 ", approved May 18, 1933, including the acqui sition of ne cessar y land , the clearin g of s uch la nd, re locati on of highways, and the construction and/or purchase of transmission lines and other facilities, the construction of the Cove Creek Dam and powerhouse and all other necessary works authorized by said Act, and for printing and binding, law books, books of reference, newspapers, periodicals, purchase, maintenance and operation of passenger-carrying vehicles, rents in the District of Columbia and elsew here a nd all neces sary s alarie s and e xpense s conn ected with t he organization, operation, and investigations of the Tennessee Valley Authority, including reimbursements for any expenses prior to the enac tmen t of this appr opria tion incur red at th e dir ecti on of the President . Salaries : Eight privates at $1,620 per annum each, fiscal year sala ries' 1934, $11,880 ; one half of such privates to be selected by the Ser- geant at Arms of the Senate and one half by the Sergeant at Arms of the House . For purcha sing and supplying u niforms and motor cyc les to Capitol police, and for contingent expenses, fiscal year 1934, $1,460 .
