[Public, No. 122.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Un ited Stat es o f Am erica in Congr ess a ssem bled, That the Secre- tar y of W ar is hereby autho rized and di rected to ca use a prelim i- nary examination to be made of the Umpqua River and its tribu- taries in the State of Oregon, with a view to the control of its floods, in accordance with the provisions of section 3 of an Act entitled "An Act to provide for the control of the floods of the Mississippi River and of the Sacramento River, California, and for other purposes", approved March 1, 1917, the cost thereof to be paid from appropriations heretofore or hereafter made for exami- nations, surveys, and contingencies of rivers and harbors .
