Architect of the Capi- tol . O FFICE OF THE ARCHI TECT OF THE CAPITOL Salaries : For the Architect of the Capitol, Assistant Architect Architect, assistant, of the Capitol, and other personal services at rates of pay provided and office personnel . by law ; and the Assistant Architect of the Capitol shall act as Architect of the Capitol during the absence or disability of that official or whenever there is no Architect ; $47,500 . Capitol Buildings and grounds . Capitol Buildings : For necessary expenditures for the Capitol et maintenance, repair, Building and electrical s ubstations of the Senate and House Office Building s, under the juri sdiction of the A rchitect of the C apitol, including minor improvements, maintenance, repair, equipment., sup- plies, material, fuel, oil, waste, and appurtenances ; furnishings and office equipment ; personal and other services ; cleaning and repair- ing works of art ; purchase or exchange (not to exceed $1,000), main- ten ance , an d dr iving of moto r-pro pell ed p asse nger- carr ying off ice vehicle ; not exceeding $300 for the purchase of technical and neces- sary reference books, periodicals, and city directory ; and pay of superintendent of meters, and $300 additional for the maintenance of an automobile for his use, who shall inspect all gas and electric me ters of the Gov ern ment in the District of Columbia wit hout additional compensation, and in his absence, disability, or when there is no superintendent of meters, these duties shall be performed by any other employee designated by the Architect of the Capitol ; $316 .599, of which su m $28,000 shall b e immediately ava ilable .
