In no case shall such clerical assistants be continued on said pay roll for a period exceeding six months after the date of death or resignation of a Mem ber of the House. SEC . 2 . Any clerical assistants who continue on the House pay rolls under the provisions of this joint resolution shall, while so continued, perform their duties under the direction of the Clerk of the House, and he is hereby authorized and directed to remove from such pay rolls any such clerks who are not attending to the duties for which their services are continued . As used in this joint resolution the phrase "Member of the House " shall mean a Representative, Representative-elect, Dele- gate, Delegate-elect, Resident Commissioner, or Resident Commis- sioner-elect . Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Uni ted States of Americ a in Cong ress assem bled, That the Act entitled "An Act to fix the compensation of registers of local land offices, and for other purposes ", approved May 21, 1928 (45 Stat . L., ch . 661, p . 684), is hereby amended to read as follows : "That fr om and after the 1st day of the month following the approval of this Act the compensation of registers of district land offices sh all be a salary of $2,000 per a nnum each, and a ll fees and commi ssions now allowe d by law to such registers, but the salary, fees, and commi ssions of such registers shall not exceed $3,600 each per annum

Provided, That

the salary of the register of the Juneau land district, Alaska, shall be $3,600 per annum ." Approved, August 22, 1935 .
