MILITIA MILITIA For the following, to be expended under the authority and direction of the commanding general, who is hereby authorized and empowered to make necessary contracts and leases, namely: For personal services, $10,920; temporary labor, $1,000; for expenses of camps, including hire of horses for officers required to be mounted, and for the payment of commutation of subsistence for enlisted men who may be detailed to guard or move the United States property at home stations on days immediately preceding and immediately fol- lowing the annual encampments; damages to private property inci- dent to encampment; reimbursement to the United States for loss of property for which the District of Columbia may be held responsi- ble; cleaning and repairing uniforms, arms, and equipment; instruction, purchase, and maintenance of athletic, gymnastic, and recreational equipment at armory or field encampments, not to exceed $500; practice marches, drills, and parades; rent of armories, drill halls, and storehouses; fuel, light, heat, care, and repair of armories, offices, and storehouses; machinery and dock, including dredging alongside of dock; construction of buildings for storage and other purposes at target range; telephone service; printing, stationery, and postage; horses and mules for mounted organizations; mainte- nance and operation of passenger and non-passengei-carrying motor vehicles; streetcar fares (not to exceed $200), necessarily used in the transaction of official business; not exceeding $400 for traveling expenses, including attendance at meetings or conventions of associa- tions pertaining to the National Guard: and for general incidental expenses of the service, $3,500; in all, $15,420. NATIONAL CAPITAL PARKS SALARIES, PUBLIC PARKS, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA For personal services, $337,760. GENERAL EXPENSES, PUBLIC PARKS General expenses: For general expenses in connection with the maintenance, care, improvement, furnishing of heat, light, and power of public parks, grounds, fountains and reservations, propagating gardens and greenhouses under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, including the tourists' camp on its present site in East Poto- mac Park, and including personal services of seasonal or intermittent employees at per diem rates of pay approved by the Secretary of the Interior, not exceeding current rates of pay for similar employ- ment in the District of Columbia; placing and maintaining portions of the parks in condition for outdoor sports, erection of stands, fur- nishing and placing of chairs, and services incident thereto in con- nection with national, patriotic, civic, and recreational functions held in the parks, including the President's Cup Regatta, and for expenses incident to the conducting of band concerts in the parks; the hire of draft animals with or without drivers at local rates approved by said Secretary; the purchase and maintenance of draft animals, har- ness, and wagons; contingent expenses; city directories; communica- [57 STArT.
