MINISTER: I have received from the Minister of National Defense note no. 2439, dated yesterday, which states: "Mr. Minister: I have the honor to inform you that there will expire on the 26th of March the contract concluded on the 27th of March 1941 between the Government of El Salvador and that of the 55 stt. 1305. United States of America by virtue of which the American Gov- ernment placed at the disposal of the Government of this Republic the technical and professional services of an officer of the Army of that nation to assume charge of the Military School and annexed Military Academy of this country, sending for that purpose Colonel Robert L. Christian; and the Government of El Salvador, desiring to continue to avail itself of the services of Colonel Clristian or of another American Army officer who may be designated by the United States, very earnestly requests you to make the necessary inquiries for the purpose of ascertaining whether the American Govern- ment is willing that such services continue to be rendered under the same conditions established in the contract referred to, and accepting also the modification requested by the Minister of the United States in his note no. 1271 of December 14 last, ['] forwarded by the office in your charge to this Ministry on the 19th of that same month, with respect to the annual compensation of $2,652 for the American officer serving in the positions mentioned.
