R . 5244] homestead entries for military or naval service rendered during World War II." [Public Law 696] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Act of September 27, 1944, as amended (58 Stat. 747; 43 U. S . C . 279, and the following), is hereby amended by renumbering section 5 to read "Section 6", and by adding the following: "SEc. 5. As used in this Act, the term "homestead" includes land hereafter disposed of under the Act of May 26, 1934 (48 Stat. 809; 48 U. S. C. 461): Provided,That nothing in this section shall be con- strued to extend any cultivation requirements to lands disposed of under the Act of May 26, 1934. As used in this Act, the words 'equit- able claims subject to allowance and confirmation' include claims of holders of permits issued by the Department of Agriculture on lands eliminated from national forests, whose permits have been terminated only because of such elimination and who own valuable improvements on such lands."
