Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the following sums are appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not other- wise appropriated, for the Legislative Branch for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1949, namely: SENATE SALARIES, MILEAGE, AND EXPENSES OF SENATORS For compensation of Senators, $1,200,000. For mileage of the President of the Senate and of Senators, $51,000. For expense allowance of Senators, $240,000. SALARIES, OFFICERS AND EMPLoYEES For compensation of officers, employees, clerks to Senators, and others, as authorized by law, including increased and additional compensation provided by the "Federal Employees Pay Act of 1945", as amended by the "Federal Employees Pay Act of 1946", as follows: OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT For compensation of the Vice President of the United States, $20,000. For clerical assistance to the Vice President, at rates of compensa- tion to be fixed by him, $32,385. CHAPLAIN Chaplain of the Senate, $2,520. OFFICE OF TIE SECRETARY For office of the Secretary, $311,515: Provided That the basic lump sum for additional clerical assistance and readjustment of salaries in the disbursing office is increased by $3,300. COMMITTEE EMPLOYEES For professional and clerical assistance to standing committees, $1,335,785. Public Law 4, approved February 19, 1947, is hereby amended by inserting in the paragraph relating to the clerical staff of the Appro- priations Committee after the words "one assistant chief clerk", the words "and two assistant clerks". CONFERENCE COMMrITEES For clerical assistance to the Conference of the Majority, at rates of compensation to be fixed by the chairman of said committee, $26,380. For clerical assistance to the Conference of the Minority, at rates of compensation to be fixed by the chairman of said committee, $26,380. 423 June 14, 1948 [H.
