62 STAT.] 80TH CONG., 2D SESS.--CHS. 527-529-JUNE 19, 1948 [CHAPTER 527] AN ACT To amend the Act of May 29, 1944, providing for the recognition of the services of the civilian officials and employees, citizens of the United States, engaged in and about the construction of the Panama Canal Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 5 of the Act approved May 29, 1944, to provide for the recognition of the services of civilian officials and employees, citizens of the United States. engaged in and about the construction of the Panama Canal is amended to read as follows: "SEC. 5. No person who has been or shall hereafter be awarded an annuity under the provisions of this Act shall be denied an annuity to which he may otherwise be entitled under the provisions of any law providing for a contributory system of retirement for civilian officials and employees of the United States or the District of Columbia Gov- ernment: Provided, That in computing the annuity under such con- tributory system of retirement of any person receiving an annuity under this Act, no special additional benefit shall be granted for service performed during the construction of the Panama Canal." SEC. 2 . This Act shall be effective from and after May 29, 1944. Approved June 19, 1948. [CHAPTER 528] AN ACT To amend the Act of March 10, 1934, entitled "An Act to promote the conservation of wildlife, fish, and game, and for other purposes", as amended by the Act approved August 14, 1946. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Act of March 10, 1934 (48 Stat. 401), as amended by the Act approved August 14, 1946 (Public Law 732, Seventy-ninth Congress), is hereby amended to include the following new section: "SEO. 5A. In the management of existing facilities (including locks, dams, and pools) in the Mississippi River between Rock Island, Illinois, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, administered by the United States Corps of EIngineers of the Department of the Army, that Department is hereby directed to give full consideration and recognition to the needs of fish and other wildlife resources and their habitat dependent on such waters, without increasing additional liability to the Govern- ment, and, to the maximum extent possible without causing damage to levee and drainage districts adjacent railroads and highways, farm lands, and dam structures, shall generally operate and maintain pool levels as though navigation was carried on throughout the year." [CHAPTER 529] AN ACT To extend the authorized maturity date of certain bridge revenue bonds to be issued in connection with the refunding of the acquisition cost of the bridge across the Missouri River at Rulo, Nebraska.
