[CHAPTER 394] AN ACT To provide increased pensions for widows and children of deceased members and retired members of the Police Department and the Fire Department of the District of Columbia. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That so much of the fourth paragraph of section 12 of the Act entitled "An Act making appropriations to provide for the expenses of the government of the District of Columbia for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and seventeen, and for other purposes", approved September 1,1916 (39 Stat. 718), as amended, as follows the first sentence thereof is hereby amended to read as follows: "In case of the death of any member of the Police Department or the Fire Department of the District of Columbia, before or after retirement from the service thereof, leaving a widow, or a child or children under eighteen years of age, the widow shall be entitled to receive relief from the said policemen and firemen's relief fund, District of Columbia, in an amount not to exceed $125 per month, and August 4, 1949 [H.
