63 STAT.] UNITED KINGDOM-FERROUS SCRAP-JULY 1,1949 The Secretary of State to the British Ambassador DEPARTMENT OF STATE WASHINGTON Jul 1 1949 EXCELLENCY: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note No. 349 of July 1, 1949 referring to the Agreement concluded on September 30, 1948 between the Government of the United States of America and His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom on the subject of ferrous scrap exports and also to discussions which have recently taken place relating to the price of such scrap exported from Germany under present circumstances. It is proposed in your note that it shall be open to the United States and United Kingdom Military Governors to suspend from time to time the provisions relating to the price of scrap set forth in para- graph 11 of Article II of the Agreement of September 30, 1948, if such suspension is agreed by them to be necessary in the interests of accomplishing the purposes of the Agreement. This proposal is acceptable to the Government of the United States. As proposed in your Excellency's note, therefore, your note and the present reply are regarded as constituting an Agreement between the two Governments, effective on the date of this note.
