SEC. 2. Section 3544(b) of title 39, United States Code, is amended by striking out "fiscal year" and inserting in lieu thereof "calendar year". SEC. 3. (a) The first section of this Act shall become effective at the beginning of the first pay period which begins on or after January 1, 1966. (b) Section 2 of this Act shall become effective at the beginning of the first pay period which begins on or after the date of enactment of this Act. (c) If the basic salary of a postmaster in a fourth-class post office was adjusted at the beginning of the first pay period which began after January 1, 1965, in accordance with the third sentence of section 3544(b) of title 39, United States Code, prior to the amendment by section 2 of this Act, and if he held such position, on the effective date of section 2 of this Act, his rate of basic compensation shall be adjusted as of such effective date, to that rate of basic compensation to which he would have been entitled if the amendment made by section 2 had been in effect on the date of such adjustment. Any increase in compensation under this subsection shall not be deemed to be an equivalent increase in basic compensation within the meaning of section 3552 of title 39, United States Code. _ Approved August 9, 1965.
