To amend title 3S, United States Code, to revise the definition of the term "child" to recognize an adoptnl child of a veteran as a dependent from the date of issuance of an interlocutory decree, to increase the rates of dependency and indenuiit.v compensation payable to dependent children of deceased veterans, and for other purposes. That subsection Adopted ««c'hird.'"" 101 (4) of title ^^8, United States Code, is amended by adding at the 72 Stat. 1106; end thereof the following sentence: 3 Stat. 424. a^^ person with respect to whom an interlocutory decree of adoption has been issued by an appropriate adoption authority shall be recognized thereafter as a legally adopted child, unless and until that decree is rescinded: Frorideil. That the child remains in the custody of the adopting parent or parents during the interlocutory period." 80 Stat. 1159. SE,^,. 2. Section 41;^ of title 88, United States Uode, is amended to read as follows: "§ 413. Dependency and indemnity compensation to children "Whenever there is no widow of a deceased veteran entitled to dependency and indemnity compensation, dependency and indemnity compensation shall be paid in equal shares to the children of the deceased veteran at the following monthly rates; "(1) One child, $88. "(2) Two children, $127. "(8) Three children, $164. '•'(4) More than three children, $164, plus $82 for each child in excess of three." SEC. 8. (a) Subsection (a) of section 414 of title 88, United States Uode, is amended by striking out "$29" and inserting in lieu thereof "$82". (b) Subsection (b) of section 414 of such title is amended by striking out "$80" and inserting in lieu thereof "$88". (c) Subsection (c) of section 414 of such title is amended by striking out "$41" and inserting in lieu thereof "$45". Effective date. c^j,^, 4 rpj^p amendments made by sections 2 and 8 of this Act shall become effective on the first day of the second calendar month following the month in which this Act is enacted.
