HIRE

For clerk hire, necessarily emplo^y^ed by each Member in the discharge of his official and representative duties, $48,^00,000. CONTINGENT EXPENSES OF THE HOUSE FURNrrURK

For furniture, materials for furniture repairs, including- tools and machinery for furniture repair shops, and for purcliase of packing boxes and carpets, $300,000. The Clerk of the House is authorized and directed to transfer to Library of the Library of Congress, without exchange of funds, such office fumi- °"^^^^* ture and equipment as the Clerk shall have determined to be excess to the needs of the House and the Librarian of Congress deems necessary and suitable to the needs of the Library. MISCELLANEOUS

ITEMS

For miscellaneous items, exclusive of salaries unless specitically ordered by the House of Representatives, including the sum of $270,000 for payment to the Architect of the Capitol in accordance with section 208 of the Act approved October 9, 1940 (Public Law S12): exchange, operation, maintenance, and repair of the Clerk's inotor veliicles, the publications and distribution service motor truck, and the post office motor vehicles for carrying the mails; not to exceed $5,000 for the purposes authorized by section 1 of House Resolution 348, approved June 29, 1961; purposes authorized by House Resolution 416, Eighty-ninth Congress; the sum of $600 for hire of automobile for the Sergeant at Arms; materials for folding; and for stationery for the use of committees, departments, and officers of the House; $5,875,000. PROGRAM

Such amount of the af)propriation in this Act for "miscellaneous funds^"^*^""^ "^ items" as may be necessary for purposes authorized by House Resolution 416, Eighty-ninth Congress, shall be immediately available. GOVERNMENT

CONTRIBUTIONS

For contributions to employees life insurance fund, retirement fund, and health benefits fund, as authorized by law, $4,300,000, and in addition, such amount as may be necessary may be transferred from the preceding appropriation for "miscellaneous items". REPORTING

HEARINGS
