Public Law 91-629 AN ACT To amend the Act of October 15, 1966 (80 Stat. 953; 20 U.S.C. 65a), relating to the National Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, so as to authorize additional appropriations to the Smithsonian Institution for carrying out the purposes of said Act.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 2(b) Smithsonian mof the National Museum Act of 1966 (20 U.S.C. 66a) is amended to ^'Appi-TpViation m. read:

"(b) There are hereby authorized to be appropriated to the Smithsonian Institution such sums as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this Act: Provided, That no more than $1,000,000 shall be appropriated annually through fiscal year 1974, of which $300,000, annually, shall be allocated and used as follows: " (A) 331/^ per centum shall be available for the purposes of clause (2) of subsection (a); " (B) 331/^ per centum shall be available for transfer to the National Endowment for the Arts for assistance to museums under section 5(c) of the National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities Act of 1965; and " (C) 331^ per centum shall be available for transfer to the National Endowment for the Humanities for assistance to museums under section 7(c) of the National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities Act of 1965.". SEC. 2. Section 2(a)(2) of the National Museum Act of 1966 (20 U.S.C. 65a(2)) is amended to read as follows: "(2) prepare and carry out programs by grant, contract, or directly for training career employees in museum practices in cooperation with museums, their professional organizations, and institutions of higher education either at the Smithsonian Institution or at the cooperating museum, organization, or institutions;". (a) The repeal of such section 115, made by the first section "^^"^^^J^^ of this Act, shall not apply in the case of a person who, on the date of 68'^strt.* io87. enactment of this Act, is receiving or is entitled to receive benefits 42 USC 410 note. under any retirement system established by the United States or any instrumentality thereof unless he requests, in writing, the office which administers his retirement system to apply it in his case. (b) Any additional benefits payable pursuant to a request made Effective date. under subsection (a) of this section shall commence on the first of the month following enactment of this Act.
