Public Law 97-230 97th Congress An Act To amend title 28, United States Code, to modify the bar membership requirements for United States magistrates.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 631(b)(1) of title 28, United States Code, is amended by striking out "He is, and has been for at least five years, a member" and inserting in lieu thereof the following: "He has been for at least five years a member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands of the United States, and he is a member". Approved August 6, 1982.
