Bradley) Stramineella, Stt., which Rebel sinks as a form of this species, is recorded from Sutton (R. C. Bradley) syringella, F. Common everywhere (R. C. Bradley). The black form of this insect seems to be peculiarly a Birmingham insect. It is common at Edgbaston, and has already been re- ferred to in various places by Dr. Jordan and others (see E.M.M. Oct. 1888). Mr. G. T. Bethune- Baker tells me that although this form occurs in several places in Edgbaston, yet in Clarendon Road it is confined to one side of the road only. He lived for many years on one side, and the variety was common with the type there ; since then he has lived for several years on the other side, and finds there the type without the variety, although the variety is still to be seen in its old quarters as of old. This is a very curious case of extreme localization of a form, and doubtless to some ex- tent explains the fact that it does not occur outside the county Ornix guttea, Haw. Knowle (R. C.
