the authority of Hidalgo,[1] who, having thus arranged matters in Celaya, and fearing that Querétaro was too well defended to be successfully assailed under the present condition of his troops, marched on the morning of the 23d in the direction of Guanajuato.[2]

    remain in the position, with the full consent of the government. The insurgents in Celaya, however, discovered this sicle-play, and Camargo escaped to Querétaro, pursued by a troop of cavalry.
