TWO weeks later a small steamship plying in the fruit trade between New Orleans and South American ports steamed from the harbor of a small South American port and made toward the open sea.

On the dock stood a solitary, tall figure waving a fragment of a leather trapping. On the deck of the steamer three white men and a young girl stood and watched the lone figure.

As the man on the dock waved, the girl in reply waved her handkerchief. There were tears in her eyes. Benton was at her side.

"Gomo, good-bye," she called.

"Good-bye to the land of Teeheemen," echoed her companion.
