Maulvi Abdul Wali read Persian and Arabic privately and English at the Calcutta Madrassa, St. Xavier's and the Presidency Colleges and devoted special attention to the Persian literature of which he is a deep scholar. He is a life member of the Bengal Asiatic Society and a member of the Royal Asiatic Society. He has published several books, translations and useful papers in Persian and Urdu.
