Mr. G. T. Chao

Mr. G. T. Chao was born at Shanghai in 1879. After an early education in private schools he attended St. John's University in 1899 and graduated with an A. B. degree in 1906. Between 1906 and 1907 he was English Secretary to the Taotai of Fungyang, Anbwei Province. In August 1907 he arrived in America for a higher education as a government student and studied Political Science at Cornell University. From 1908 to 1911 he studied at the University of Wisconsin, receiving his B. A. degree in 1910 and his A. M. in 1911. He returned to China in April 1911, and was engaged as a teacher at the Fu Tan College, Changsha. From 1912 to 1913 he taught at the National Institute of Shanghai. In the winter of 1913 he was appointed Vice-President of the Tsing Hua College, Peking. In that capacity he re-visited America. From October 1915 to April 1916 he was
