THURSTON, Marie Harding (Mrs. Joseph S.), born July, 1891, in Atlantic, Iowa, daughter of Dick F. and Mary Clarke Harding, a resident of California for eighteen years. Married to Joseph Smith Thurston. Children: Virginia, Doris Helen. For many years an educator. Active in club and civic affairs. Has held many offices in several organizations. For the past two years Director of Children's Theatre. Director of 1927 Indian Pageaant. For six years, school principal. Contributes articles to local press. Through her efforts, it has been made possible for the local Woman's Club to own, as a club building, the first house built in the present town of Eaguna. TINGLEY, Katherine, (Madame), born July 6, 1852, in Newburyport, Mass., daughter of James P. and Susan Westcott, of early colonial ancestry. Married to P. B. Tingley, inventor. Theosophist. Leader and official head (for life) of the Universal Brotherhood and Theosophical Society. Conducted two theosophical crusades around the world. Founder of International Brotherhood League, also Summer Home for Children, Spring Valley, New Jersey; home for orphan children. Point Loma, California; several academies for boys and girls in Cuba. Did considerable relief and emergency hospital work after Spanish-American War and was instrumental in establishing hospitals in Manila and Cuba. Founded Parliament of Peace and Universal Brotherhood, 1913; Theosophical University, Point Loma, 1919. Established several theosophical branch centers in America and in Europe, also summer school for children at Visingsoe, Sweden. Editor of Theosophical Path. Many theosophical magazines are published under her direction in Germany, Holland and Sweden. TODD, Jennie G. (Mrs.), born June 23, 1878, in San Jose, California, daughter of Fleming M. and Eliza Griffith, a life-long resident of the state. Married to Harry P. Todd. Children: Eleanor Adele. Treasurer, Walnut Grove Creamery Co. Has been actively engaged with large milk-distributing concerns in San Francisco and Oakland for many years. Interested in elevating the standard of milk distribution, realizing that it is intimately connected with the development of child welfare. At present.
