I PATRICK,[2] a sinner, the rudest and the least of all the faithful, and most contemptible to very many, had for my father Calpornius, a deacon, a son of Potitus[3] a presbyter,[4] who dwelt in the village of Bannavem[5] Taberniæ,[6] for he had a small farm[7] hard by the place where I was taken captive.[8] I was then nearly sixteen years of age.
