Missing line ?

In the third paragraph, "However he did not wish to make me believe that the people of your city do impossible things.”" seems to jump - I wonder if there is a line missing ?

Another version of the story, which is longer, has "However he did not wish to appear eager to learn the particulars, lest he should alarm the old cobler.
