Page talk:The Dunciad - Alexander Pope (1743).djvu/93

On this page there is complete footnote (not just a part) associated with a line of the poem which is on the previous page. I've tried a few variations to get this to render properly in the page (i.e. here) and also when transcluded.

If there were no other footnotes on this page, it would be easy just to put the footnote in the footer as text, rather than between <ref></ref> but this is just messy in this case, especially when trying to get the footnotes to appear in the correct order.

The method I have settled on is to put the footnote right at the start of the poem text and wrap it in <noinclude></noinclude>. This has the benefit of presenting the footnotes correctly but the drawback of a footnote indicator that isn't in the correct place. I can't find a means of making the footnote indicator invisible (e.g. by making the text white.)

The text of the footnote is included on the preceding page wrapped in <includeonly></includeonly>, so it doesn't appear on the page.

Together, these result in the footnote and the footnote indicator appearing correctly when transcluded.Chrisguise (talk) 11:31, 20 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
