Typesetting errors? edit

NOTE: many lowercase o's on this source text page are printed as lowercase c.

I don't know much about 19th century printing, but assume the source text would have been printed with movable type. So it seems really unlikely that the typesetter would have repeatedly made the mistake of setting "c" instead of "o", and I'm at a loss to explain how the page was printed in this fashion.

There have been numerous other instances of such errors in this source text; til now I had assumed many or most were inking "glitches", where the type was set correctly, but the ink did not transfer correctly from the type to the printed page. But I think this page disproves that theory, from the sheer quantity and consistency of misprinted o's.

Anyway—I have purposely not marked all such instances on this page with the SIC template, as I think they would be a distraction to the reader.

Please let me know if there is a better way of handling this. Harris7 (talk) 14:36, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Resolved edit

Per discussion here - Problem was in the DJVU file: incorrect compression was reusing (in this case) an image (glyph) of a letter "o" to replace many instances of the letter "c". Resolved by regenerating the DJVU file.Harris7 (talk) 22:49, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
