"The Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society (Phil. Trans.) is a scientific journal published by the Royal Society of London. It was established in 1665, making it the first journal in the world exclusively devoted to science, and it has remained in continuous publication ever since, making it the world's longest-running scientific journal. "
Philosophical Transactions was split into two sections in 1887: A: Physical, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences and B: Biological Sciences
In 1809, the Abridgement Series was printed in 18 volumes, comprising issues from 1665-1800 and added biographies of the authors.
