This hymn was originally the final verse of three hymns by Thomas Ken ("A Morning Hymn", "An Evening Hymn", and "A Midnight Hymn"), but is more commonly sung as a hymn unto itself. It is a doxology, a short hymn of praise, and is often known as the Doxology. It is usually sung to the tune "Old Hundredth".
