Out of interest of my own family history i decided to look up the name of my Great Grand Father. And am rather Confused over the fact that it says that he was the President of the Transvaal as in the journal and memoirs that we have of his it says that he was the President of the Orange free state, Another independant Boer republic. He also did not identify himself with being Dutch, but with being an Afrikaner. Many Afrikaans people would be insulted by having a Cultural and historical icon being described as Dutch. Further more we have papers that say that he retired to a farm near modern day De Aar and retreated from public life rather heart broken over his apparent failures.

- I'm not sure where you see him described as 'Dutch', but he was most certainly President of the Transvaal and not the Orange Free State.
