Talk:Aggie War Hymn

Should "Sounds like hell!" be in these lyrics? (after "that is the song they sing so well")

It is included by almost everyone... not sure if its offical lyrics... maybe in parathesis? --Pboyd04 03:13, 9 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Clean up edit

I removed some copyrighted stuff as well as the "Hot time in Austin" which I could not determine the copyright of at all. Also removed external links which we do not really use here. If any one could upload a sound clip to Commons it would be really great!--BirgitteSB 02:44, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Accuracy edit

Recommend that the reference about the first verse "never being popular" be removed. Frank Cox, former Yellboy and Member of the Corps (I want to say C/0 '54) will personally tell you that they used to sing it, and that he laments that is no longer sung. I will see what I can do to provide a source beyond hearsay to this, for accuracy's sake. For some reason, I can't sign this with my username, will try to fix later.

Recommend maybe rewording the "never being popular" to something a little more vague, like "never acheived the lasting popularity of the 'second' verse".
On top of that, I'm going to add a litte more information here and will add it to the article later. Mr. John A. Adams, a reknowned Texas A&M historian, has tapes of interviews with J. V. Wilson before his death where he states that the "first" verse was only added with pressure from the administration and was supposed to be a second verse. When it was printed in the program for the upcoming football season, it was included first. Wilson later stated that, in retrospect, he wished he never wrote that verse. When it fell out of popularity I suppose is a matter of debate.

Hot Time and Sounds like hell edit

These components of the War Hymn are not official and are not in the University-approved version. They have been added by the students over time. If we add them, I think it should be noted in some manner that they were added by the students. I'll tackle this project in the near future if there are no objections.
