Reviews

  • The Outlook, 3 Sept 1924: This ancient town, governed under its antiquated charter by a trio of crooks, has a Moot Hall with more secret passages than "The Mysteries of Udolfo." The Mayor is murdered in the Moot Hall; and the reader who can guess the how and why until Mr. Fletcher wants him to is some Sherlock Holmes himself. The author has been crowned king of recent crime and detective stories by lovers of that kind of literature.
  • The Bookman, Sept 1924: This murder mystery in a graft ridden English pocket borough is an exciting tale.
