Template talk:Border
Overhaul
editI have completely rebuilt this template from the ground up with the hope that it's more useful, but still functional in the way it was intended. I maintained the defaults, except that I changed the border default color to black, but there are now 8 additional (and all optional) parameters that you can set in addition to the content property itself. Feel free to leave a comment or two, whether positive or negative. Thanks, The Haz talk 19:24, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
- This looks great from the examples, I will have to try it on the various pages for which I've manually added borders via tables. Would it be possible to add an option for manually adding additional CSS styles? For example, on one page, I added rounded corners (and my is it beautiful! :). Also, this seems to have no option for using named parameters, which makes uses of this template rather obscure to other editors. djr13 (talk) 14:02, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was going to do named parameters, but with so many I had removed them. I was planning on adding them back but hadn't had the time. If you want to feel free! As for CSS, I added the style parameter and changed example 4 to incorporate rounded borders via this. The Haz talk 21:42, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- I spent some time looking up how to do aliases for parameters, so that either the numbers or named parameters can be used, but I'm not sure where to start. Are the numbered parameters particularly helpful, and worth keeping at all? (I do realize of course there are a few dozen pages that use this that'd need updating.) djr13 (talk) 23:29, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
width vs. max-width
editI'm changing the template to use max-width instead of width. It shouldn't change appearance on most browsers but will help the box be more responsive to smaller screens (ie. mobile users). Please let me know if you see this breaking anything, though unless someone uses it the wrong way it shouldn'tThe Haz talk 16:31, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

- Thanks indeed. @Hrishikes: The needed changes
- Technically, display:block would have to be changed to display:inline-block. https://www.w3schools.com/css/css_inline-block.asp Haz talk 00:22, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
