A B C CLUB (ä-bā-sā′): a name adopted by certain republican enthusiasts in Paris, professing to relieve the depressed–abaissés. Their insurrection of 5 June 1832 was suppressed with bloodshed. The event is described in Victor Hugo’s ‘Les Misérables’ (1862).
